The Indian chintz that inspired "Grand Palampore" was the hottest trend in British homes in the early 18th century. Exquisitely colored, hand-painted chintzes, often used as bed curtains and bed covers (called "palampore") introduced color-fast prints to the Western world. Entrepreneurial British manufacturers copied the look, but could not recreate the quality of the hand-painted Indian chintzes.
